I never understood why it’s an F if he gets more than half out of 100? Unless it’s more than 100. If you get more than half the answers right how is it an F?

You must not be from America. Here, grading is fucked up.

Average American Grading Scale:
A+- 97-100
A – 94-96
A- – 90-93
B- 80-89
C- 70-79
D- 60-69
F- 59 and under

And in some places in America it goes by a 7 point scale, so it’d be
A – 100-93
B – 92-85
C – 84-78
D – 77-70
F – 69 and below

Now you understand why American kid’s feel like there’s no point to school. If you have a 100 question text, and get 79 of them correct, that’s a C. That mean’s your Average Intelligence on this particular subject. And it get’s even worse when you have only like… a 10 question quiz. If you get two wrong? that’s a B. 80 fucking %. Now tell me again why American school’s are easier?

that our “average” is your “A”

French system: a grade on 20, 40 on big exams, 10 for short tests. There are no real levels but kids made them: above 15 is great, above 10 is good, above 5 is a bit low and under 5 is bad. We are only judged by our unofficial system we do by ourselves, teachers often announce an average on tests so you know how good you did.
And it’s better like this.

And you are JUDGED LIKE HELL if you get less than A’s on everything.

BUT WAIT. THERE’S MORE.

You better hope to god you don’t get an American teacher who seeks to teach you lessons in behavior and consequences. If they decide to fuck with you, after you turn your papers in, those papers will disappear.

You know kids, right? Kids often forget to pass their papers in. There’s not rigorous or structured collection of papers in some classes.. by design. So kids who don’t turn their work in happen all the time. It’s perfect cover for teachers who deliberately lose your school work.

And in some of those classes, what are teacher policies on lost work?

They remove entire grades.

More than one teacher has humbled a student by deliberately gaslighting them by taking their work, taking it home to grade and deliberately crumpled it up to throw away. And why?

Because it will turn even the best A student into a B student. A B student into a C student. A D student into an F student.

And every day it isn’t passed in the grade drops by one more letter.

If you’re a kid like me that the teacher felt obligated to “break” as a way to “teach them a lesson” in humility, you start doing a ritual to announce that you’ve handed in your work. I literally started shaming my teacher by handing in my work and yelling.

“HERE, MRS. LEWANDOWSKI. I DID YOUR HOMEWORK FROM THE DATE OF XX/XX/XX ON THE SUBJECT OF [TOPIC OF THE DAY.] SIGNED MY NAME. I AM HANDING IT INTO YOUR IN-BOX NOW.”

Effectively I turned my classmates into notaries. She hated that so much I was suspended.
