boyonetta:

The stereotype of non-passing trans people having public meltdowns when a stranger accidentally misgenders us is 100% a tumblr fabrication.

We know we do not pass, and a lot of us are still in the closet. We don’t expect complete strangers to innately know our genders. If we are comfortable correcting them, we do so politely, often very meekly, for fear of being the target of hatred and vitriol.

What we DON’T do is scream and cry and call them evil oppressive cis scum. Not only is that childish, it puts us in danger. Behaving in an aggressive fashion paints an even bigger target on our backs.

That sort of whining might fly on tumblr, but offline, it is 1) considered immature and innappropriate, and 2) could get us beaten or killed.

I would never do it, no self-respecting trans person would ever do it, so PLEASE turn your hateboners down a couple notches.
