Heard you take submissions, so I thought I’d tell you about one of my D&D adventures.
Context: We’re playing 3.5e and our DM liked to add his own tweeks to the game; this time it was giving our characters phobias. Mine (human, werewolf, rogue) was worms/slugs. We also had to roll fortitude for severity of our phobias, and I rolled a nat 1.
We had recently been captured for a bar brawl, and were working on escaping the Baron’s dungeons.I rolled to look for traps, failed, and fell into a strangely floored pit. Our wizard used magelight, revealing bloodworms…hundreds of them, used as a tuorcher/interrogation method. Should also mention we had been drinking (all over 21!) and were feeling no pain.
DM: (to me) Roll fortitude to resist panicking.
Me: (Nat 1)
DM: *snickering* Yeah…you’re having full on hysterics.
Me: (way too into my character, decides to play the fool) *Jumps out of my chair, starts running laps around the kitchen island screaming in my most girly voice (24 yr old male, at the time)* “Their squishy! OMG, I can hear them squishing!” *incomprehensible screaming*
DM and other three party members: *dying laughing*I return to my seat after a few minutes, laughing, and wait for the others to recover.
DM: *wiping tears out of his eyes* Your running has crushed all the worms, while the guards and the Baron were laughing in the door way.
DM/Baron: I haven’t had this much of a laugh in years! Guards, give them their gear. Gentleman, you’re free to go.
To this day, when any of us meet up (D&D nights or not) all any of us have to say is ‘worms’ and the others will laugh hysterically.
