I want to talk about Paladins. They seem to be the least liked D&D class and fantasy archetype in general (at least since 5e made bards not useless) and I want to know people’s thoughts on this. Then I’m gonna write a thing talking about common issues and ways to get around them. If you think they’re great, I want to know about that too.

As a dude who’s favorite class is paladin, I can say that most people have a problem with them due to a combination of the fact that sometimes they’re played as sanctimonious jackoffs, and the way people see them.
Take the tired “youth pastor who is also a cop” joke, I personally find it annoying but it’s not unfounded from what I’ve heard.
Then again, if you can’t imagine anything else about the class that says more about you than it does the class.
Actually I’m gonna reblog this again with a suggestion if you wanna try that class (cause imo, 5e’s paladin is pretty baller ability wise, you haven’t lived till you’ve tanked a demon and beheaded the bastard with a smite)

you don’t have to play big religion man with a sword if you don’t want to, you can be wild with it, you could have an atheist paladin sworn to the ideals of justice instead of a deity, play a paladin sworn to an archfey.
Personally my favorite way of playing one is as a “wild” paladin, not really attached to a church or order, solely motivated by their oath.
I’m currently playing a bugbear ancients paladin who’s on a quest to pay it forward after the death of his mentor, carrying a lot of guilt and shame but still wanting to press forward, and that need to save the world and spread the light in a way where he can also heal himself is a really fun arc for me!
It’s also fun to think of why your character took the oath. Why does your paladin want to strike back at the dark with righteous brutality as an avenger? Why do they wish to uphold themselves as a bastion of pure light as a white knight?Why do they seek to bring love and kindness to the darkest corners as a redeemer? WHY DO THEY WANNA BE AN EDGY HELL KNIGHT AS A CONQUEST PALADIN?
Not to mention: homebrew! Play a working class hero as an oath of the common man paladin! Stalk the monsters that go bump in the night as an oath of eternal night paladin! BE A FUCKING PIRATE WITH OATH OF THE DROWNED!

Paladin is my go to class in 5e, its abilities just work well in most situations.
There are so many ways of playing them, especially since there’s no alignment restrictions in 5e. They do typically lend towards good aligned, but it doesn’t really matter. You can play how you like.
People who say Paladins are a restrictive class are often just restricted by their own imagination

Right now, they’re throwing everything out for far lower prices – because they’re closing shop. So if you need/want any of these, now is the time to get it, I guess.
I saw this post years ago, and I just rechecked – don’t click that link, it tries to make you download and install a thing and then redirects to a google search. I’m pretty sure this clothing company no longer exists. It’s a shame, but spreading this around like they’re still in operation is not great either.
